An acre of mature orchard. Dog free and a nice place for a picnic – it’s only a few steps from the River Avon Trail.
The orchard used to be part of Ham Green Hospital – an isolation hospital. Before immunisation and antibiotics this is where people suffering from TB and other infectious diseases would be treated and kept away from the rest of the population. The hospital had two farms as well as the orchard and was nearly self-sufficient in food. The hospital closed in 1990.
Now the orchard is looked after by the Pill community. There are some unusual apple varieties – no one will mind if you take a few to make an apple pie, but please don’t be greedy. There are plenty of blackberry bushes around as well.
